What is your impression of apparel products made from recycled materials?

(lightly checked: 69, carefully checked: 17, not checked: 14)

《lightly checked》
  • When I purchased a tight dress and wore it for the first time, the bottom button came off, probably due to the load exerted by the motion of opening my legs when walking. Since then, I have started to check thread materials and the strength of the buttons. (20s / Female / Chiba / Housewife)
  • I want to buy one in the best condition possible, so I check the sewing. However, I don't check that carefully. (20s / Male / Tokyo / Full-time employee)
  • I have been buying more and more overseas products on the Internet, but many of them are poorly sewn, and they keep coming undone just by washing, so I have started to pay more attention to the sewing when I buy them in stores. (30s / Female / Kanagawa / Housewife)
  • I was disappointed, so after that, I have been checking as much as possible. (30s / Male / Hokkaido / Full-time employee)
  • Perhaps it is because of the increasing number of petite, fast fashion items, but I have noticed an increasing number of apparel products that are poorly sewn and stuffed. Before purchasing, I casually check the appearance of the product to see if there is any lint on it, if it is loose, and if the sewing is neat. (If the sewing is lax, the product deteriorates quickly due to wear and washing.) (40s / Female / Aichi / Part-time job)
  • When we check a design, we unfold it and lightly check for fraying at the same time. If the item is new in Japan, I do not check it carefully because I trust that it will not be frayed. (40s / Male / Shizuoka Prefecture / Self-employed, freelance)
  • If I don't check, there are sometimes loose ends after I get home (50s / Female / Fukuoka / Company Management, Executive)
  • I've had a few frayed ends (50s / Male / Aichi / Full-time employee)

《carefully checked》
  • If there are frayed parts, the garment will not look good and people will notice, and depending on the frayed parts, the whole garment may deteriorate prematurely. (20s / Female / Hokkaido / Full-time employee)
  • This is because we want to prevent, as much as possible, the occasional sewing that is sometimes found on inexpensive apparel products, such as fraying or buttons coming off even though they have just been purchased due to loose sewing. I do not check the entire garment, but I do check the cuffs, sides, and other areas that are prone to fraying. (30s / Female / Chiba / Dispatched worker, Contract worker)
  • I was once disappointed that an apparel product I had purchased on the Internet was so poorly sewn, even though it looked nice at a glance. Since then, I have started to check the quality of products. I consider it as one of the points to judge the quality of products. (40s / Female / Tottori Prefecture / Self-employed, freelance)
  • I do not want to purchase defective products with frayed stitching, and it is troublesome to process returns unless I confirm it at the time of purchase. (40s / Male / Chiba / Full-time employee)
  • When I buy cheap clothes made overseas, I turn them inside out and look at them carefully because the sewing is so crude. (50s / Female / Shiga Prefecture / Housewife)

《not checked》
  • I don't particularly care whether it has frayed edges or not. (20s / Male / Hyogo / Others)
  • If it is inexpensive, I buy it thinking that I will only wear it during that season, so I don't pay much attention to it and just look at the shape and wear it. (30s / Female / Kanagawa / Housewife)
  • I don't check because I don't think there will be any fraying, etc. anyway. It has been rare for me to find fraying. (30s / Male / Hokkaido / Self-employed, freelance)
  • I have never had any fraying in the past, so I didn't care if they were trustworthy or not (40s / Female / Shiga Prefecture / Housewife)
  • I trust that since they are selling the products for money, they must be ensuring a minimum level of quality (50s / Male / Osaka / Full-time employee)

Conclusion

Regarding whether they check the condition of sewing when purchasing apparel products, 69% say they check lightly, 17% say they check carefully, and 14% say they do not check.

The combined total of "lightly check" and "carefully check" accounted for 86%, indicating that most people check the condition of their sewing.

Many respondents said they had experienced poor sewing in the past, that the hassle of exchanging the garments was too much, and that they wanted to wear the garments as long as possible.

Conversely, many of the "don't check" comments included "I trust that there are no loose ends," "I have never had a problem before," and "It's a hassle.
